The competition honors the memory of Kristina Townsend, daughter of founder Erik Buck and Erika Townsend, who passed away of leukemia days before her thirteenth birthday. Kristina loved music and loved to sing and our purpose is to encourage and inspire emerging talented young singers in her name.
One award of each amount to the winner of each of the following categories:
16-18 years old ($200) | 19-22 years old ($300) | 23-26 years old ($500)
Winners will also receive the opportunity to perform at an Opera Modesto event within the next year.

Singers aged 16-26 living or studying full-time in one of the following California counties:
Amador, Calaveras, Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tuolumne or Yolo
All applicants must be able to provide the name of a current voice teacher, either private, choral, or through their educational institution.
No more than 10 minutes of music. Music must be memorized. At least two (2) classical and no more than one (1) musical theater selection. Accompanist provided.
Participants 18 and over must prepare selections in at least two different languages.
Participant must bring six (6) copies of their music to the audition; one (1) for the accompanist and five (5) for the judges.
Application & Fee
Limited number of audition times available. Auditions will be scheduled upon submission of application and $25 fee.
