Opera Modesto’s Summer Opera Institute (SOI) for teens is a conservatory level training program for youth artists graduating from the 8th to 12th grades. The program consists of workshops designed to enhance self-confidence, leadership and performing skills.
This summer, 68 young singers from across the Central Valley spent two weeks training with Opera Modesto’s artists. They worked on voice, language, movement and stagecraft, building confidence and lifelong friendships along the way.
The Institute ended with a final concert on July 24th, where students performed to full houses of family and friends. One highlight: “Look at the Sky, Look at the Stars” from Rachel Portman’s The Little Prince, a preview of the opera coming to the State Theatre in January 2027.
