Opera Modesto’s Summer Opera Institute (SOI) for teens is a conservatory level training program for youth artists graduating from the 8th to 12th grades. The program consists of workshops designed to enhance self-confidence, leadership and performing skills. Classes include specialized vocal training, language pronunciation, performance skills, International Phonetic Alphabet, dance, drama, workshops by international guest artists, and much more. The SOI concludes with a concert of staged operatic excerpts in a variety of languages.

WHEN IS SOI?
Individual voice lessons and training begin in June and the two-week intensive is the last two weeks of July.
HOW DO I ENROLL?
Enrollment for Summer Opera Institute usually begins in February or March.
DO I HAVE TO AUDITION?
Auditions are not required; however Vocal Placement is. The faculty will hear each participant for vocal range and skill levels prior to start of the program. Prior training in classical voice or opera is not required.
IS THERE A COST?
There is a $250 fee to attend SOI. This includes all coursework, music and a Summer Opera Institute t-shirt. Full and partial scholarships are available. No one will be turned away due to financial circumstances.
IS THERE A PERFORMANCE?
The Summer Opera Institute holds a free public performance at the end of the program.
